In order to reduce the entire energy consumption of the WSN, a promising approach is to design light clustering algorithms.LEACH is such a well-known clustering algorithm that was designed to distribute the energy consumption to nodes in the WSN evenly. LEACH is characterized by its attactive clusterbased strategy however, in the algorithm, energy dissipation of entire network is still great during the process that cluster-heads (CH) transmit data to base station (BS). In this paper, based on LEACH, we propose a modified clustering orithm which is named ESCAL. Description: Power consumption is an important design criterion in the design of wireless sensor networks. Hybrid radio frequency/free space optical wireless sensor networks (RF/FSO WSN) have been proposed to reduce the energy consumption of traditional RF-based sensor networks. This paper compares the performance of such a hybrid sensor network against the wellknown RF-based low energy adapting clustering hierarchy (LEACH) WSN proposed in the literature. Network performance is studied in terms of network lifetime and average network area coverage. Simulations show that despite not employing data aggregation, the RF/FSO WSN has a longer lifetime and larger average network coverage when compared to the LEACH WSN

Description: The sensor networks application domain continues to increase with the need for an effective security mechanism. The fact that WSN often deal with sensitive data operating in hostile and unexpected environments, makes the concept of security considered essential. However, because of limited resources and low computing capacity of a sensor node, the development of a mechanism that ensures security is a real design challenges. In this report we have tried to propose a new security mechanism dedicated to WSN. Our main objective is to secure the process of transferring data to the base station. The proposed protocol protects transferred data against intruder nodes attacks, using a security mechanism based on the use of control message MAC (Message Authentication Code) for authentication. Our protocol performances are evaluated using the simulator NS2.
